How to Master Time While Social Distancing

🕰Time is the most precious commodity in the world. It is non-renewable. Once gone, it’s gone forever.

I’ve been thinking about time a lot now that the days have sort of meshed together and sometimes it feels like we’re in perpetual weekend mode dominated by sweatpants, and house robes. You might be feeling boundaries between work and home life have been blurred with some homeschooling thrown in the mix.

You might be looking at internet coaches talking about how they’re using all this time in lock down growing their businesses, learning new skills, learning a new language and beyond. It doesn’t have to go down that way though. You have your own unique circumstances. What may work for one person, may not work for you. Listen to the needs of your body and your family.

If you need to take things easy, do it. If you’re feeling extra productive, put in the extra work to get things done. The world has overall slowed down. It might be a time for self-reflection and more connection with those who are in your immediate family.

It’s a strange time to be in for sure. I want you to know that this too, will pass. I have a few tips below to help you anchor yourself and feel more in control of your time right now. These small steps, done regularly, can yield massive results in your life and business, especially now that kids are home too.

🖊 PLAN

Have a to-do list. My favourite is using a project management tool like Asana. You could use something simpler like the “To Do” app or any of the hundred of productivity apps available out there. You can also never go wrong with a physical to-do list.

🗓SCHEDULE

Make one for yourself and your family. This doesn’t have to be rigid, but it’s good to have something in place so that everyone knows what to expect and essential tasks don’t fall through the cracks.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧FAMILY TIME

Leave extra time to relax with the family, because those of us who are confined at homes and unable to work, have a unique opportunity to connect with our immediate families on a deeper level.

🙏🏻GRACE

Give yourself some grace because you’ve got a lot on your plate right now. This doesn’t have to be a high-pressure time for you to get absolutely everything that you’ve been putting off done. You can slowly get to projects and reward your progress as you move through tasks. Remember to plan, but be kind to yourself.

You don’t want to get lost in the mundane home life where you feel like you’re constantly in the state of working because you can’t leave the house. You also don’t want to feel like there is so much going on that you can’t find any time to be productive. It’s all about striking the right balance for YOU and YOUR family.
